Here are two versions of Sangria - one alcoholic and one non-alcoholic. I've always known how to make sangria with red wine (!) but I recently got the recipe for the virgin sangria at the Friday night Mexican themed street food night at The Lane in Palmwoods and it's really nice and refreshing.
Sangria
4 oranges
2 lemons
1 apple, unpeeled, core removed, diced
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup cointreau
750ml bottle red wine
1/4 cup caster sugar (optional)
750ml bottle soft drink (lemonade, soda water or ginger ale)
fresh mint
Thinly slice 1 orange and 1 lemon. Cut each slice into small wedges and place in a large bowl. Add apple, cinnamon and brandy. Stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate overnight or for an hour or so.
Juice the remaining oranges and lemon. Combine the wine, sugar, soft drink, orange and lemon juice in a large jug. Add the apple mixture and some fresh mint. Stir to combine.
Spoon crushed ice into 8 tall glasses. Pour over sangria. Serve.
Virgin Sangria
1 x bottle Grapetiser (sparkling red grape juice)
1 x bottle fresh cranberry juice
2 cups cold tea (I use rooibos)
1/4 cup caster sugar
1 x bottle soda water
1 bunch fresh mint
1 orange (sliced)
2 apples (cut into chunks)
Brew the tea and allow it to cool - preferably in the fridge. Mix all ingredients together except for the soda water. Add soda water slowly - testing unless you get the right level of sweetness. Serve with fresh mint and lots of ice.
